Player Evaluations

Fall 2022 player evaluations will be held on Sunday, August 20th and Saturday, August 28th (makeup).

The purpose of evaluations is to measure each player's individual skill level, so that we can evenly divide the teams during the player draft. Every player for divisions 8U-17U must attend evaluations. 6U players do not need to attend evaluations.

Evaluations Schedule

8U: 9:00am

10U: 10:00am

12U/17U: 11:00am

All evaluations will be held on Field 3.

Make-up Evaluations Schedule

If you cannot attend evaluations on January 11, there will be a make-up evaluations session on Saturday, January 18 on Field 3 at the following times:

8U: 9:00am

10U: 10:00am

12U/17U: 11:00am

What You Need to Bring to Player Evaluations

1) Proof of Age

Please bring your daughter's birth certificate or U.S. passport. This is required even if you have played at ESO in a previous year. We only need to see the document. We do not keep a copy.

Birth Certificates marked ABSTRACT, are not accepted. If you do not have a valid birth certificate or passport, you can obtain one at the Country Registrar office in Van Nuys (14340 W. Sylvan Street).

2) Equipment

Your daughter will need cleats, a fielding glove, a batting helmet (with chin strap and facemask) and a bat for player evaluations.  Fielding masks are optional at ESO, but highly encouraged.

If you are new to softball and have not yet purchased the necessary equipment, we may be able to loan her some equipment on evaluation day. E-mail registrar@esogirlssoftball.com if you think you will need equipment.

Keep in mind that you will need to purchase her equipment before practices start.

If your daughter does not have all of the items listed above, she will not be able to participate in player evaluations.

What to Expect at Player Evaluations

Generally, evaluations are done on a division-by-division basis (all 8U players, all 10U players, etc.). Each player will receive a number at the time of registration.

When evaluations begin, each player will perform a few short drills to measure their fielding, throwing, running, pitching and hitting skills.

ESO's coaches will give each player a score for fielding, throwing, running, hitting and pitching. These scores will be shared with all of the division coaches prior to the player draft.
